Special Emphasis Programs
Wallops has two advisory committees in the special emphasis arena:
- Equal Opportunity Advisory Committee on Minorities and Persons with Disabilities - chartered to advise management regarding issues affecting minorities and persons with disabilities.

Minority University Programs
NASA-UMES Summer Internship Program (NUSIP) - ten-week paid internship
program for ten (10) Engineering, Aviation Science, Computer Science,
Science, Mathematics, and Business majors at UMES and other institutions.
For 2003 ,eight students were placed in various organization from June 2-August 8. For 2002, six students were placed in various organizations from June 10 - August 16.
The GSFC/Wallops has a Memorandum of Agreement with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore to collaborate on projects of mutual interest. The UMES is a Historical Black College/University on Virginia's Eastern Shore. (url)
Current collaborations include:
- Bridge - a summer program for pre-engineering students at UMES
- Mathematics, Engineering, Science Enrichment Pre-college Program (MESEP) - a year long program for students from Eastern Shore of MD high schools
- UMES-AIR - a scientific Blimp project managed by multi-disciplinary UMES students
- Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Engineering and Aerospace Academy (SEMAA) - a year long program for students in grades 5-8 from Accomack and Somerset counties in VA and MD respectively.
UMES convened three Summer sessions during June and July 2003. There were 64 students in grades 3 and 4 during week one, 39 students in grades 5 and 6 during week two, and 22 students in grades 7 and 8 during the final week. Students from Accomack and Somerset counties continue to be inspired through SEMAA.
The GSFC has collaborated with Delaware State
University for the Interactive Science Summer Experience for the summers of
1999-2001.
